Intervention
Creating an Intervention Component

Select "Component" from the "Intervention" section of the left-hand menu.

Choose the session you wish to work with from the drop down menu.

Click "Add New Intervention Component"

Enter the Intervention Component name.

Click "Add"
-
From the "Manage Intervention Component" screen, select the intervention component.

Select the type of slide you would like to construct:

Multiple Choices
-
Single Choice
-
Image
-
Video
-
Recap
-
Feedback
-
SMS
-
Add New Component Slides

Multiple Choices
Several types of interventions use multiple-choice slides; one example is the Pros/Cons intervention. This intervention asks the participant to identify positive or negative feelings. The intervention recaps both sides of the issue.
To develop the Pros/Cons intervention, 3 slides are created - 2 are multiple choice slides.

From the Manage Intervention Component screen select the component.

Choose “Add New Slide – Multiple choices"

Enter the Slide Name
-
Write an introduction text
-
Enter the question name
-
Enter the variable name
-
Enter multiple choice responses
-
Select "Add"
-
Repeat steps 1 – 8 for the other side of the issue

Single Choice
-
From the Manage Intervention Component screen select the component.
-
Choose “Add New Slide –Single Choice"
-
Enter the Slide Name
-
Write an introduction text
-
Enter the question name
-
Enter the variable name
-
Enter multiple choice responses
-
Select "Add"
Image/URL Slide
-
From the Manage Intervention Component screen select the component.
-
Choose “Add New Slide – Image/URL"
-
Enter the Slide Name
-
Click "Choose file" to upload your image
-
Enter the question name
-
Enter the variable name
-
Enter multiple choice responses
-
Select "Add"
Note: Image width must be <=600 pixels. File type must be .jpg or .gif. File size is limited to 1MB
Video Slides
-
From the Manage Intervention Component screen select the component.

Choose “Add New Slide – Video Clips"
-
Enter the Slide Name
-
Choose a video clip to be played
-
Videos can be linked from Youtube or Vimeo (using the embed link), or uploaded from your computer.

Enter the length of the video clip
-
Write an introduction text for the question that will follow the video clip (if applicable)
-
Enter the question name
-
Questions will be asked after the video has stopped playing.

Enter the variable name
-
Enter multiple choice responses
-
Select "Add"
Recap Slide
A "recap" slide is the last slide for a "pro-con" intervention
-
From the Manage Intervention Component screen select the component.
-
Choose “Add New Slide – Recap"
-
Enter the Slide Name and Introduction Text
-
Select "Add"
-
You will be returned to the previous screen
-
-
Choose the "edit" option for the slide that you have just created.
-
Click the What you told us link directly beneath the introduction text box to set up the dynamic marker text.
-
In the dynamic marker text box that appears, enter a variable name and click "find"
-
Enter the corresponding text for each response and click "Add"
-
Repeat steps 7 & 8 for the opposing view, i.e. "con slide"

Enter the dynamic marker for each view in the introduction text.

Click "Update"
Feedback Slides
The feedback slide presents a visual display of how one person’s behavior or beliefs compares to others

From the Manage Intervention Component screen select the component.

Choose “Add New Slide – Feedback"
-
Enter the Slide Name and Explanation Text
-
Enter the Label on the Left, i.e. "Least," the Label in the Middle, i.e. "You," and the Label on the Right, i.e. "Most."

Enter data into the reference box
-
These data will be used to demonstrate how a participant’s use compares to that of others
-
The “Score” is taken from a required question in the survey section or another intervention slide used to determine the participant’s use, i.e. ASSIST-Lite question 1a measures how many cigarettes a participant smoked in a day
-
The “Spot on the Bar” is a marker along the feedback line from 0 to 20. “0” is the left end of the bar; “20” is the right end of the bar.

“Reference Value” is the lower range and “Reverse of Reference” is high range.

Select "Add"
-
You will be returned to the previous screen

Choose the "edit" option for the slide that you have just created.

Once the slide is added, go back to the explanation text and enter the dynamic marker for feedback.

Click the What you told us link directly beneath the introduction text box to set up the dynamic marker text.

In the dynamic marker text box that appears, enter a variable name and click "find"
-
Enter the corresponding text for each response and click "Add"

Add marker movement and pointing movements in text as needed. Use “Notes on explanation text” as guide for movement/pointing markers

Add variable name in the “formula” box above reference box
-
Click "Update"
Note: each question must have a unique dynamic marker
SMS Slides
SMS slides allow you to introduce text messaging to your participants. With this slide you can also allow participants to choose the frequency and timing of text messages they receive

From the Manage Intervention Component screen select the component.

Choose “Add New Slide – SMS"
-
Enter the Slide Name and Introduction Text

For "Phone Number Label" you can prompt participants to enter their cell phone number
-
You can choose to allow participants to choose the frequency, day of the week and time of the text messages they recieve
-
You can propmt them to do so in the respective "Label" boxes
-

Uncheck the choices for day, time and frequency that you do not wish to be shown to the participant
-
If you do not wish to give the participant a choice in time, frequency and/or day, you can uncheck all options, and leave the respective "Label" boxes empty.

Click "Add"

Ordering Slides
You can change and dictate the order of your Intervention Slides using the options "Order Slide" and "Order Options." This process is explained in the "Screening" section
